Now this is interesting.

What started out as the "career goals" page for the portfolio in progress turned into something completely different. It should be different, shouldn't it?
Ill-iterations. #3 in a series of pathetic scribblings.

Serge Danyshevsky = god

still confused about this one.

"i don't want any more people to think they know me before we've even met."

I can understand, and have thought about, most of the things she is saying. It basicly all comes down to one important question: What is the purpose, of it all. But then, when this question is asked, another forces itself into the same line of thought: Why should it have a purpose? Should I care about a stupid website to the point that I'm obviously in a delema as to such a purpose?

Taking a step back from it all and looking at things honestly, I'd say that people who happen upon this pathetic place and waste 30 minutes delving into it's innermost parts won't really get a clear understanding of who (or what) I am. Spend 15 seconds in a face to face conversation and they'd form an entirely different opinion. (those of you who have actually had this pleasure are nodding your heads in total agreement.)

So, with the previous two questions taken into consideration, the purpose of thisisdrew.com if there is such a thing, seems to depend on who in each instance is viewing it. And these purposes after all, are greatly outshined by a central, unifying theme: all this crap is here merely to to serve as a time-killing amusement to it's author while there is nothing good on television.
Or to put things differently while still expressing the same idea:
The enormous amount of time spent years ago quietly sitting in a corner drooling on my shirt, has now been replaced with something deceptively similar.

WOW
There is a Law of the Universe that says "Anything that works quickly will work less and less well the longer you keep doing it."

Sunday, May 27

Went to see Pearl Harbor with mom last night; It was actually a pretty good movie. ..,much more so than I expected. As things are, I watch WAY to much history/war based television documentaries, and I STILL had no idea that the US bombed Tokyo that early in the war. Sure, most everybody knows about the bombing raids on Japan in the closing months of the war leading up to Hiroshima, but it was interesting to find out about what happened in the short months following the Pearl Harbor attack. (if "interesting" is the right term to use in describing the cold realities of war)

It was a good movie though, one of the very few that I would actually tell someone to go see. ..,and it's amazing how many STUPID people I know and get along with, who have no concept of even the basic facts of 20th century history. How could people be so ignorant about such things? It really bugs me sometimes.. that's all.

The last time I went to Petit Jean, I went alone, in attempts to sell the car at the antique car ralley. It was weird spending the whole day by myself, in such a large event with thousands of people. Later in the day, hiking all the trails with no socks, and deck shoes...alone, was an interesting experience. It'll be fun to go back there Monday with alot'a people.

stayed up way to late last night, and only now am starting to feel like sleeping. So we shall.
but first:
The last two occurences in Drew's Boring Day:
1. Whoa, the big-toe on my left foot has a small toenail, while the toenail on my right foot big-toe is abnormally long.
2. I find that this guy has an interesting portfolio.

Current thought as I reach to turn the light off and fall asleep: "Drew, who cares about toenails? You are one sick lunatic."
..pause..
"At least my toenails aren't yellow. I hate the idea of ever having any dealings with yellow toenailed people. .., If I ever contract such an ailment, we shall have toenail-replacement surgery."

From the various happenings of the day, springs forth a list of absolute truths:
1. Sleeping in until 10:30 is a great.
2. If an active day is planned, load up on Ramen. That stuff gives you all kinds of energy.
3. Justin can walk into a hardware store and emerge shortly thereafter with all the needed materials to manufacture sick high-fly ski pole.
4. Wet muddy dogs in boats....take some getting used to.
5. Corey is far better than Collin and I, in all facets of the wakeboarding world. in time...in time
6. Lake Catherine is smaller and dirtier than Lake Ouachita, but the whole lake is nice and smooth throughout the day.
7. It's always best to bring a ski-rope. ..,that way you don't have to dig around for all your scrap pieces of old ski-ropes and tie them together.
8. Sliced pork sandwich and apple pie after a long day in the sun = good.
9. Our cool new idea: "let's have a band", will soon die off, and all this expensive band-stuff purchased lately will be only be another reminder of wasted money.
10. Going to the the new Wal-Mart supercenter at 1:00 am is a very interesting experience.
11. Channel 4, the Little Rock NBC affilliate, is obviously run by a panel of complete morons. ..,who else would air episodes of Judge Judy after the sucky Tonight Show, and force us to stay up another 30 min for Conan. morons I tell you. ..,morons.

Friday, May 25

It was a great drive home tonight, a pleasant, cloudless spring night. The radio played songs that were agreeable to this mood. Brief times like this are great. Driving, ..make that 'cruising' down highway 9; Everything seeming to be on the upside, all the while sitting on a busted ketchup packet with my new white dockers.
A fitting symbol of the past month.

Thursday, May 24

.., so I'm talking to Colten (5 yrs old) yesterday, as is often the case as I'm pretty much on the same wavelength as young immature children, and somehow our conversation drifted towards cinematic exposure. ..., or the: "have you ever seen this' movie" dialog.
I mentioned Superman. It was shocking. .., it was unheard of. ..,he had never seen or heard of Superman. My attitude quickly shifted from one of curious conversation to that of morbid sorrow and empathy. This kid has never seen Superman. How could this be possible?

My mind drifted back to when I was 4 - 13. Superman was something holy. ..something revered, someone whose powers were frequently considered and pondered over.

Something wonderfull has been unknowingly hidden, ..stripped from this child. And it is my plan..,
to give it back.

We are SO going to do this.

After taking the camcorder back to bestbuy to fix the water damage, (the warranty doesn't cover water damage, so the official explanation was: "We were using it, and it just quit working.") I stopped by Barns & Nobles to check out all the newest mags.

A cool quote from the May/June issue of Adbusters
"Take away Hollywood and the shopping malls, and the shell-shocked would line the streets" The accompanying photo of the zombies on a subway car really hits hard.

A couple of weeks ago on NPR there was a cool piece on the book Killing Pablo. I really wanted to buy the book today, but there was absolutely NO way I was going to pay the $26 retail price.

It has been an unbelievable 3 days. Not very many words to describe how great some things were, and how remarkably screwed up some of the other things could be. Everything tends to even out. So the best advice that drew can give to himself is to avoid extremes, in any direction. With great awsome times, ..soon will follow the very stressfull intimidating times where it is best to hide under a large rock.

sidenote: it's very late at night. It used to be just a little late; and there were rare plans to retire at a reasonable hour. But then....., we have found THIS. ..one of those rare things that is totally and completely "worth'a'read".

"Radiohead as a band understood how to make rock interesting again, and in the end, that's all they set out to do when they recorded Amnesiac, as well as Kid A. It's more than can be said for the bad frat-punk, teen-pop and soulless techno that currently rules the charts, and for that alone, Radiohead's astonishing exploration of 21st-century anguish deserves credit." --Matthew Cooke

The summer of Kratz.

We've got to get a digital camera.
All this crap is taking WAY too much time whenever you factor in:
1. Purchasing film (for that 400.00 camera)
2. Taking the photos
3. Dropping the film off for development
4. Driving back to walmart to pick up/pay for prints
5. Drive home, scan the prints. (using my 1942 Microtek "ScanMaker")
6. Uploading.

The short term goal of course, is to buy a nice 2+ megapixel zooming digital cam, so that putting pics on the web would involve:
1. Taking the photograph
2. Plugging the thing into a USB port
3. Uploading

Who cares about "prints" anyway?

Oh yes, it will be mine. ..oh yes.

June 5th: ....diddo.

Little excursions over to dictionary.com often provide guidance when on occasion, a word will arise whose meaning is unknown.

misogynist "...I'm a what?"

3 entries found:
1. mi·sog·y·nist (m-sj-nst)
(noun) One who hates women.
(adj.) Of or characterized by a hatred of women.

2. Mi*sog"y*nist\, n. [Gr. ?, ?; ? to hate + ? woman: cf. F. misogyne.] A woman hater. --Fuller. ....(drew's audio example)

3. misogynist (noun) : someone who dislikes women in particular

I guess it all comes down to a person's understanding of what the term "woman" actually denotes.
Again in this case, dictionary.com shall provide us with additional insight:

wom·an: (n. singular) 1. An adult female human being.

Drew, thinking to himself with a noticable devilish grin: "I'm sure glad we got this one cleared up."

"...." listen, .., can you hear that? It's a rude rustling in the distance. It's the sound of drew, who is routinely on the receiving-end of speculative trash-talk, but on this and other rare occasions dishes out some of it himself. Ok, we'll stop being a jerk. ..Until next time.

Somthing from powazek.com
"Anyone who's been converted to the Church of TiVo can tell you that it changes your entire relationship with television. Now, instead of sitting down and tuning out to whatever dreck happens to be on, you just tell TiVo what you like and it preemptively records it. So when you sit down to kill a few brain cells in front of the tube, all your favorite shows are there waiting for you."

Drew must purchase one of those tivo things. The onset of "productive television viewing" could shake my world to the core.

Sunday, May 13

The last few weeks have been entirely too busy, so it was very nice to kick back this weekend at Jason's house and enjoy the mental peace that a long overdue weekend without commitments or deadlines brings.

Most of Saturday was spent tinkering on the car.
It's amazing how much body-work can be done with a screwdriver, blowtorch, and hammer. (I left out all the sockets and wrenches, but who's counting.)

Oh yeah, the door on that stupid car will now officially shut. It's nice for a door to function as a ...door. And thanks to nice new headcover gaskets, we don't have quite the same levels of burnt-oil-fumes entering the bridge of the ship. I say bridge, because the car is a boat, a ship, a seagoing vessel of huge early seventies dodge c-body style proportions.

Upon aquiring liability insurance and a liscense plate, you should all be afraid. Be very, very, afraid.

If dad owned a convenience store ..part 1 in a series

Tuesday, May 8

In the late 1700's, the first sloth bear pelts were sent from India to Britain.
Dr. George Shaw from the British Museum originally classed them as belonging to the family of sloths, calling them bear sloths.
It was not until 1810, when a live sloth bear was shipped to Paris, that the classification error was corrected and the name reversed to sloth bear.

thank god they cleared that one up before it was too late.

Saturday, May 5

A conversation that stuck in my head from two days ago.

At lunch break from work, on the way back from Ryans buffet, we pass by two black women standing by the opened hood of a car:
Rick: "hmm, ..looks like a some serious car trouble."
Me: "yep....,"
Hoss (yes, his name is really Hoss) doesn't slow down a bit as we pass by the stranded vehicle and it's helpless occupants. Two or three silent seconds pass as we continue down the road.
Matt: (joking) "Hoss, you're a mechanic, and you're not gonna stop and help those people because you're prejudiced against black people."
Hoss: "No, we're not gonna stop because I'm prejudiced against Geo's."

Gifted Retard ..great name

Last night's work involved alot of physical labor. So sleeping in, ..to around 10:30 this morning has gotten me ready for two grueling FINALS today. It's important to have a clear, ungroggy head whenever you have two huge essay tests. But quickly leaving the house and not thinking about grabbing my all-important exam notes will probably have much to do with today's grade.

So it is here at school with an unprepared mind that I sit for 5 minutes, check my mail, And wait to take a test that I'm not prepared for.

Capricorn: (Dec. 22--Jan. 19)
Your innocent inquiry regarding the origin of the term "panhandler" incites three bums to beat you to death with cast-iron skillets.

Even better than last week's:

Mason-Dixon Line Renamed IHOP-Waffle House Line

As with most other projects that pertain to, well, ..me, ...the portfolio is turning out to be a huge pile of particulars and decisions. It will all get worked out in due time though. As of now, the graphics are a little sketchy and the layout method is a subject of much mental controversy. ..as it should be for somebody who really cares about those types of things. Come to think about it, you don't really see that many succesful tradesmen who put sub-par thought into their important projects, and in spite of the fact that this project is accomplished through hours of slouching in front of monitor, it's no different than if an electrician were to look at a stupid schematic for hours on hours or spend that extra 30 minutes making the breaker panel look/function better.

I'm excited about the idea of someday being skilled. ..,in something, anything. And even more so to be thought of as skilled by those who I already know and respect as such.

but anyway, it's 2:30 in the morning and i'm looking over the "discuss" thangs on some of my entries. Most of you people are idiots. Me, I'm an idiot in remmision. Oh well, """" that's the sound of Drew, falling back down to your level, ...the level at which he has already wasted entirely too much time.

Goodnight cruel world.
